TODAY IN COMIC BOOK HISTORY: NOV. 30, 1941
72 years ago The Emerald Archer made his debut in More Fun Comics #73. Inspired to create the character after watching the 1940 serial The Green Archer, Mort Weisinger used Robin Hood as a prototype and added hallmark Batman traits such as a sidekick, an Arrow-Mobile, an Arrow-Cave and a billionaire playboy alter-ego.
Green Arrow, aka Oliver Queen, is one of the few DC heroes to have longevity after the Golden Age of Comics. This was mainly due to Weisinger’s GA & Aquaman back-ups in the Superboy books.
In the the late 60s Neal Adams would update his costume and look, giving him that trademark goatee. Then writer Dennis O’Neil would update the character himself. Taking away Queen’s fortune and turning GA into an advocate of the disadvantaged and the political left wing.
Green Arrow is perhaps the greatest archer ever known and posses a wide verity of trick arrows which he uses to fight crime in Star City. He is also proficient in acrobatics, martial arts, hunting, swordsmanship and aviation.
If you hosted SNL and could choose the musical guest, who would you choose?
"Please save my friend."
Olicity + jealousy.
